Ever wonder what type of lock box is best to carry your cannabis? What type of door lock you should utilize to secure your grow operation? Or why it may matter what lock will keep your children away from your stash.
There are big differences in locks today. With the advent of blue tooth technology it is now possible to walk past your lock with a smart phone and “voila” your door is open. Is this new technology really safe or legal?
Lets examine 3 types of locks and contrast each of them according to law and common sense.
Option 1, is the “old-school” key lock. It works well and does not require users to remember a password, no need to change batteries and the lock works every time. Unfortunately users tend to lose their keys or leave the keys vulnerable and unsecured. Imagine being detained by law enforcement with a set of keys to a box filled with pot, or a room filled with cannabis plant, you may be in trouble. If the key fits, you must prosecute.
Option 2 is the biometric fingerprint style of lock. While this lock is the coolest and by far, the most expensive, it is also one of the more vulnerable to arrest. These cool new locks require batteries and maintenance, and will not have the longevity of other locking systems. It may be the biggest deterrant to children’s access however, in our law enforcement scenario, if the fingerprint matches, it’s beyond a shadow of doubt that the marijuana belongs to you.
Option 3, and our preferred locking type is the password, safe, or push code type lock. There are digital varieties that may require batteries and many others that do not. These locks maintain very well with repeated use and are cost effective when compared to biometric options. In addition, assuming you keep your mouth shut during a law enforcement encounter, then no connection between you and what is locked in the box or grow room can be linked to you. Never give out your password. To any one.
Remember that law enforcement has never been more aggressive to marijuana users (medical or recreational) than any point before in our prohibitionary history. Enjoy your freedom and be safe.
