Livonia, MI — The Sequel

This article was originally published on the Marijuana Patients Organization site on August 22, 2014.

Welcome the Sequel! – Now it its 5th Season! – Policy Makers More Defiant than a Crowd at Ferguson! – With Less Support than a Talking Turd at the Punch Bowl! – A Moral System that Suppresses Yours! – And, and, the not too shabby — a Democracy Run Amuck! Please give a big round of applause to the newest attempt to “‘we’ll use the legal system to override the public vote on medical marijuana’ to Livonia, MI.

Congratulations to Mayor Jack Kirdsey and council members Maureen Miller Brosnan, Brian Meakin, Brandon Krizman, Susan Nah, John Pastor, Lynda Scheel, and Laura Toy. If you see these folks be sure and tell them what a good job they are doing. Without their efforts to control others, no one would ever be marginalized so no one would be moving the issue of medical marijuana forward. Congratulations. Job well done. Pat yourself on the back. Your proven pros at marginalizing.

Yes we should all welcome the sequel as this time Livonia City Council rammed through a last minute legal maneuver in an attempt to keep medical marijuana out of ‘their’ city. It must be ‘their’ city because the voters approved medical marijuana. So simple deduction proves it is ‘their’ city and not it’s residents. So if residents of Livonia aren’t determiners of their own fate then they must be subjects.

(As a not-to-be-missed sideshow, mayor Jack Kirdsey along with the vice president of the council, John Pastor, and council member James McCann are formally being investigated for wrongdoings in city government)

I welcome the sequel because we are now a step closer to the end. And the end can have only two choices:

  1. democracy, voter rule
  2. subjugation, others rule you

My faith is with the people. As our collective spring gets wound tighter and tighter, more individuals get marginalized and that critical mass for significant change forms. Maybe that’s why Livonia’s elected officials are militarizing their city.

These elected officials won’t represent the mother who spoke with only the emotion a mother could as she explained medical marijuana’s assistance in combating her daughter infliction with seizures, “I cannot believe the cops and politicians are making medical decisions for my daughter, how fucking dare they.’ Or how about the just released study from John Hopkins School of Public Health that found a 25% drop in prescription pain pill deaths in states that have legalized medical marijuana. While medical marijuana has never killed anyone, Livonia elected officials would rather have local deaths than change. Truly a status quo. Truly marginalization. Truly subjugation.

As Gandi said to the British power structure in India, ‘We want to make salt.’ We say to the status quo power structure in Livonia, we also want to make salt, we want to be free. So the next time you see a talking turd at the punch bowl offering you a shit sandwich…. well….

  1. Livonia is an awful place to live. That city is corrupt and the residents are now learning that.
