Despite pouring rain a group of approximately 1500 activists met at the steps of the capitol in Lansing last week in order to draw attention to several bills aimed at gutting the core protections the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act provides. Why do patients need to continue to fight for rights afforded them?
A few legislators have sought to undermine the voter approved act, this needs to be stopped. This recent act of civil disobedience represents the strength of our medical marijuana community and 63% of voters, a group that legislators cannot ignore. Take note, “No changes to our law, until we get an equal voice.”
No current legislation is fair to patients or conversely may be very well intended, but not quite refined enough and actually hurts patients. We urge you to vote NO regarding current medical marijuana legislation and start clear conversation with patients and caregivers.
The MPO wants to thank the tireless efforts of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Association (MMMA) and the Michigan Association of Compassion Centers for their help organizing the rally and continuing their work to help defend medical marijuana patients rights in Michigan.
