Last year a memo by the State Board of Medicine was sent to Michigan doctors and outlined their ideal standards of care for physicians when prescribing marijuana to patients. While the memo was simply that, a memo, most doctors we speak with point out what the letter neglected to address or should have said, but most plan on complying. Except of course the part where a doctor is suppose to have a pre-existing relationship before prescribing marijuana. This bullet point will likely go ignored by the whole of the medical community.
After a recent discussion with several marijuana physicians about the memo and their thoughts on standards of care, an interesting model was proposed. Consider the handicap parking system for medical marijuana patients.
The State issues blue and red handicap parking tags. Blue is for long term (4 years) and red signifies short term (as little as 1 month), the length of the permit is decided by the doctor and the fee goes to the State.
