Michigan Governor Says Half of State Qualifies for Medical Marijuana

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the agency led by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette that also administers the Michigan Medical Marihuana Program for the State, has encouraged Governor Snyder to designate the month of September, Pain Awareness Month.

The Attorney General’s office has declared that 4 million Michiganders suffer from chronic pain, nearly half the State’s 9,876,187 residents, a serious concern that has been growing. Both the Governor and Attorney General are advocating the use of non-opioid medication to treat chronic pain, including medical marijuana as an alternative treatment method. It is with no doubt that chronic pain is the single leading reason for the use of medical marijuana as reported by the department and reported in the Detroit News earlier this year.

This shift in sentiment about marijuana is due in large part to common sense, and the fact that our leaders are concerned for the health of Michigan citizens, specifically, the effects that many prescription pills can have on an aging population and shrinking State budget. As the number of medical marijuana users in the State increases, it will be in part to the efforts of our brave and compassionate leadership in the State Government.

  1. If the governer accepts medical marijuana use and the Licensing of growers of said product, Then why allow the feds to come in and arrest the growers that the state approves and has had the Marijuana eradication task force inspect and approve , as a governor It is your task to stop the harrasement by the feds and have all cases dropped and erased from their records as they have followed your laws and regulations, and are being jailed and their property confiscated by the feds!

  2. Re-elect this compassionate nerd. Bill Schuette has got to go next election. This September will be pain management month again.

  4. Finally, these state worker’s who by the way work for us the voters are seeing the big picture.Cannabis is good for the economy, Good for peoples health in general. When America decided to outlaw Cannabis it basically force the whole world to follow their lead.We are now see that cancer rates and other illnesses are on the rise, some because of the industial age contamination. And toxic waste from nuculer waste. Any way people have cosumed cannabis for thousand years from Greoge Washington to ike who took cannibis for war stress from wars.As soon as this war on cannibiss started we started to see rise in MS,cancer, depression and many other ill’s.It is only normal to look to cannabis, now that we know about the endocanabiniod system naturaly in our body we realize what we have been missing heath wise, we really do need small amounts month to maintain like the old saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away. 5. Assholes just trying to snake some votes as they raid legal caregivers and patients for no reason. I’m sure.

  6. It seems that DEA(Fed) can work with local municipalities to raid a dispensary or grower without the State government consent or knowledge. If the state intervene, it would be a civil war. I want to give Rick Snyder the benefit of a doubt. DEA was established by a Republican president when he declare WAR on drugs. DEA is an army against citizens. The power DEA has makes this country ashamed. DEA can search, arrest, shoot without a court warrant all in the name of WAR on drugs. DEA is the enemy. This is a link related to DEA.

  7. I’m afraid he’s playing politics. If he REALLY believed this, he would instruct the police departments to NOT raid and arrest medical MJ caregivers and patients, AND he would introduce legislation to DECRIMALISE cannabis..PERIOD!!

  8. This is just a ploy for him to try and get re-voted into office. Snyder, in my opinion, could give a shit less about us Michiganders! Thank GOD Schuette is OUT and cannot be voted in again, too!

  9. You are wrong! Bill Schuette can be voted in next election 2014, this is his first term. We need to Keep Snyder in and VOTE NO FOR SCHUETTE. We need a democratic attorney general that can fight civil rights violations by the nut jobs (republican and democrats) in State government right now.

  10. Dont Believe ANY of this! it All bullshit to get votes Snyder and Bill Shitty NEED to GO ASAP

  11. because under treaty to the United Nations, it is mandated as a schedule I drug, therefore the federal government has to.

  12. Well there is this amazing thing called the Courts of Law, what you do is you summon the feds for violation of your civil and god given rights, protected under the constitution. Entering a home knowing the state has legalised the substance, and maybe you will earn some money in the process rather than bitch……
