Changes to Michigan’s Medical Marihuana Act were approved after bi-partisan support in the late hours of session early this morning. Democrats agree to Medical Marihuana changes that Republicans have been demanding.
Immediate changes are, patients will be required to present a picture ID when meeting with a physician or when presenting law enforcement your card, and clarification regarding the doctor/patient relationship will be outlined. In addition, any one with a prior violent, assault or sexual felony, is disqualified from becoming a caregiver, dispensary owner, employee, and pretty much out of business. The other legislation will define what a grow is and what it cannot be.
The only legislation that would help patients (and the State’s printers), cards will now be valid for 2 years as opposed to 1 year currently.
These bills were no surprise, but the Democrat’s support or bargaining, is what amazes advocates and patients. Since this legislation required a super majority (75%), something was given in exchange for the Republican led medical marijuana fixes as this was a unanimous decision.
The impact to our law will be in the details of this legislation, those details have yet to be defined, and this is the unsettling part. Let us hope these new fixes will not be overreaching , or defy the intent of 70% of Michiganders.

Tina, sure sounds like you don’t have a clue as to the medical benefits of marijuana. I was able to kick a pain killer addiction for a spine desease I’ve been taking hard narcotics for for 20 years. If the “drug dealers” are out of business, what war would be going on??

I’m in pain most of the time and I keep trying not to take these hard drugs that doctors keep giving me and getting me addicted to and I found out that we can now buy pot in the form of a capsule because a lot of people like myself can’t stand the smell. So I hope the price of weed comes down with more places that are controlled start selling more.
What people are not seeing is that we are not looking to get high.Yes there are some out there that abuse the system. I am a cancer patient, i was unable to drink or eat anything. i tried everything, including suppositories. One doctor set me aside and mentioned medical marijuana to help with my appetite. I no longer used oxycodone, fentenol, and so many more. I was able to eat. It does help with pain, and nausea. ENOUGH SAID!
Its just another way for them to remain in control… we all see what happened in Washington! give it a little while it’ll happen here also.. and i cant wait!

What about medical oxycontin? That drug has killed more people I know personally than any other cause. I don’t smoke marijanuna but I don’t see the harm in using it recreationally, or medically. As for putting drug dealers out of business starting a war, I can’t even begin to see the logic in that. The only wars I see are drug dealer against drug dealer and law enforcement against drug dealers.

Medical cannabis is real, not because you dont have/suffer a cronic desease means that you have the right to comments on something that is proven to help others. Not everything you see on Tv or you are told is TRUE. Education/research is the best tool to be a better YOU,. God made the plant is the human being who made it look EVIL. and yes, there is a war but the enemy is not the Plant are the one behind the BIG companies.
The further restrictions placed will only make it harder on those who need it most. The law is very well written; further modification is not needed nor ever was. There were and are no “gray” areas. They are attempting to undermine the will of the voters, and they have. Watch and see what other rights this affects. We, the People voted. When did it become We, The People vs. The Federal Government?? We ARE the Federal Government!!

We the people in the state of Michigan voted in Medical Marihuana. why would our government tell sick people that because they have a felony on there record that they can’t use the medication that is working for them. What kind of people are you, you want these people to go back to drugs that only cause more problems. SIDE AFFECTS I am so disapointed in my government. I hope when the time comes when someone you love needs the cure (medical marihuana) that you find it. God help us all untill you all can open your eyes to the goodness of MARIHUANA
So what there saying is if I were a felon and was battling cancer I couldn`t purchase it legally to suppress the the pain and nausea….wouldn`t that force people to buy it illegally because I would go to my neighborhood pothead to make my purchase , majority of these politicans are real bone heads…
