Why do some people grow their own marijuana?

This article was originally published on the Marijuana Patients Organization site on September 29, 2013.

Have you ever set up an entire grow, researched methods, analyzed growing conditions, sourced quality genetics, invested $1000’s of dollars in a set up and an air filtration system. In Michigan, since it is illegal to grow outdoors (unless properly secured) it is important that you have optimum indoor conditions or the money to create them.

Assuming you had the time, money, energy, health and green thumb to begin growing marijuana, would you be able to react to bugs, plant issues and other things that accompany marijuana growing? It is not a simple task, I would rather change my own oil. According to a recent MPO survey, only 14% of patients grow their own while 62% get it from a dispensary.

Growing ‘good’ marijuana requires a very dedicated person (full-time) to cultivate the level and quality of medicine that my condition requires, and I do not want my children removed from my house if I considered growing my own indoors.

So who does take growing serious? In Michigan there is an extremely talented army of gardeners who cultivate the medicine that patients, dispensaries and collectives require (the 86% that do not grow their own).

If you are effective, the cost savings over dispensaries and caregivers can add up, not to mention should you find a strain that works, by growing your own you ensure an endless supply.

For those wanting to take on the task of farming cannabis, get online and read, read and then read some more. This is not backyard carrots. Growing poor pot can result in inferior quality and mold contamination. To ask questions about growing marijuana or to learn why others choose to grow, please visit http://WhyGrow.com

  1. What are you talking about Todd they say it can be done in the article. Would not risk growing outside though. How many people get away with it and more eyes on ot and easier to see and steal your crop.

  2. It is much better to grow your own medicine, and not hard to do. Does take some time and money, but the investment is worth it. I have tried the “dispensary” meds, and trust me they are not quite up to my own standards. I like the exercise you get from indoor gardening, and is healthy for people with arthritis to keep moving. I say buy the indoor gardening bible, by Jorge Cervantes. And grow your own, most Indicas are for insomnia, pain, and movement disorders. Sativa strains are great for M.S. and some seizure cases. There are much more things these strains are good for. Just take the time to do some research, and a few bucks, you can have high quality meds, without depending on someone who wants to get rich off sick folks.
