Israeli Researchers have determined cannabidiol (CBD) heals broken bones in lab study rats. Rats that had mid-femoral fractures were administered CBD, a component of the cannabis plant, bones healed in as little as eight weeks. The study was performed in Israel and their findings were published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

The cannabis treatment not only healed broken bones, the compound CBD, made the bones stronger. CBD enhanced “the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue”. The researchers stated in a press release, “it will be harder to break in the future”. “The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point” lead researcher Dr. Yankel Gabet stated. “While there is still a lot of work to be done to develop appropriate therapies, it is clear that it is possible to detach a clinical therapy objective from the psychoactivity of cannabis.”
