Veterans Find Relief With Medical Marijuana

This article was originally published on the Marijuana Patients Organization site on June 30, 2013.

An increase in the veterans who are turning towards medical marijuana is proving that there are healing benefits when opting for medical marijuana instead of other treatments.  Many veterans who return from war or active duty are facing problems with being able to function normally.  In the recent past, doctors prescribe large amounts of pain killers that rarely correct the actual problem.  This is why many veterans have tried medical marijuana and are noticing quick the tremendous benefits acquired from the use.

Preparing for war and being involved in one cause your body high amounts of stress.  When you return from war, you may already be addicted to pain killers or the doctor has started to prescribe you a long list of chemicals to put in your body.  Veterans aren’t being truly helped in this way and are really only numbing the pain instead of fixing it.  Medical marijuana provides the benefits naturally that take care of your problems.  It’s has been shown to help with certain medical problems and eliminate problems such as anxiety, anger, and irritability issues.

Your body will naturally show a problem functioning when under the use of a large number of pain killers and other designer drugs.  Your body is not meant to function in that way normally.  Medical marijuana is a natural chemical that is produced in the body already.  The chemical from medical marijuana is a cannabinoid that your body manufactures. These chemicals attach to cells in the body that help relieve your pain.  When you experience PTSD and other problems returning from war or active duty, medical marijuana is a great answer to relieving these problems.

Doctors often prescribe pain killers and other drugs when they aren’t able to figure out how to eliminate your problems.  This doesn’t really help you at all, but just makes you rely on these pills day after day.  With the use of medical marijuana, you’ll notice a much better ability to manage your emotions and adjust back to normal life.

Though it is a new subject for veterans, many are starting to voice their support for the use of medical marijuana.  For those out there who realize the dangers in the highly addictive painkillers and other drugs, medical marijuana is an option that you should inquire about.  You’ll be able to combat your chronic pains from war or active duty more naturally and get your body operating back to normal.

  1. For anyone who lives with a Veteran with PTSD or has PTSD understands and sees the benefits of Medical Marijuana on a personal level. For those who continue to put a negative stance on marijuana, I say educate yourself in doing whatever it takes to at least consider legal access for our Veterans. Compare RX drug deaths to the number of deaths caused by marijuana. Common sense here in my opinion!

  2. I don’t have PTSD but I do have a nerve condition and a chronic pain condition known as RSD/CRPS. I have signed the bill to get legal marijuana passed in our county. It has failed once and on the bill to go again. The pain pills just phase the pain some days. Legal marijuana would at least take the pain away, all the pain. People who don’t have severe pain doesn’t realize the pain we are in unless they have to do deal with it everyday.

  3. i am a veteran and collect benefits i can not get a med card because if i do i will lose my benefits so how these other vets have a card is beyond me unless they do not get much as far a benefits. im at 100% what is theres that got one and how come they haven’t lost there benefits plz

  4. That is not true Mike. Where did you get that information. VA knows I have a card and knows about other veterans with mj cards. The VA is in support of it.

  5. hi grady! did they give it to you? are you over 80% disability? i am in phx are you local to that we can talk? my Doctor said he does not recommend doing that or getting one because there is no record that show i can under DODPM or any regs to approve it. i went to downtown to research it and no were does it say anything but Quote at no time shall a veteran be require of have a medical marijuana card under gov’t stature i can not remember the manual i read it in. veteran will fill a lost of benefits to require medical card. wow this is my reason to question and/or to be safe so i do not lose money benefits because i can not work and affraid at this point till proven with out a doubt with no lose.

  6. I am U.S. Marine veteran medically seperated as a Sergeant with severe nerve damage in my right hip/groin. I also have 3 bulging discs in my lower back, 2 herniated discs in my upper back, arthritis and a slightly torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder,PTSD, and carpal tunnel in both hands. I am currently a heavy equipment mechanic although my VA doctor highly recomends that I just file for SSI which I refuse to do. Instead everyday I take 40+ Mg of oxycodone, 3200Mg of IB Profen, and Flexerol by the hand full. If medical Marijauna could help me stop taking all of this medication that is slowly destroying my liver and body I would gladly flush them all down the toilet! Please PA pass the law!

  7. The Army was giving mood altering drugs to these soldiers, many then committed suicide..More men serving in the gulf wars in the middle East have committed suicide than were killed in action. I know for a fact that Cannabis marijuana is safer than suicide.

  8. OMG!!!! Bro, I am collecting Benefits 100% and, I have PTSD and, Wounded. And I have a medical MMJ Card! It is easy for us to get this card. Please Email, me! I was at the VA Hospital yesterday, there was advertisement for MMJ throughout the hospital. My Counselor, supports it, 100% If my message, makes no sense, It is because, I am excited to help my fellow Bros, and Sisters, with information that is hidden from the one’s who need this! By the way, I have been off the VA MEDS since I have my card 5 years. MIKE THE VA DOES NO CARE IF YOU HAVE A MMJ CARD!

  9. The Department of Veterans Affairs will formally allow patients treated at its hospitals and clinics to use medical marijuana in states where it is legal, a policy clarification that veterans have sought for several years.

The VA will can/can not prescribe (or distribute) medical cannabis … yet but as doctors and states begin to recognize the benefits, they will have to rethink that policy for the benefits of their patients.

  10. did your VA doc precribe the MM card. I’m 100% PTSD/Depression, anxiety, etc. Can I get the card for medical marijuana. I’m on opiates for pain and antidepressents for depression and they are not helping me at all.

  11. I go to the Atlanta Georgia VA and I can tell you for a fact that if you test positive for marijuana you will be kicked out of the pain clinic .
