The United States Supreme Court delivered a big win for gay rights today by forcing the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages in States where it is legal.
While the ruling is great news for our gay and lesbian friends, the decision forces the federal government to recognize State laws. This case will surely be used in pending or future prosecutions by the federal government against individuals complying with State laws regarding marijuana, both recreational and medicinal.
This is a big step for a democracy that was founded by the individual States, dedicated in protecting the rights of the States to enact laws and rules separate of the federal government and other individual States.
