MDCH No Longer Controls Medical Marijuana Program in Michigan
Governor Snyder has shifted all power of the Michigan Department of Community Health’s Medical Marijuana Program to a newly organized Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. This is part of an overall restructuring of departments within the state and it is not certain what if any impact it will have on the State’s Medical Marijuana Program. We hope this move will free up necessary resources to better fund the program, expedite the card issue process and other administrative shortcomings the department has had to date.
Senate Bill 99
This bill is a direct threat to patients. We take this very personal, this bill must be defeated.
Below you will have the opportunity to read the bill that has passed the Senate in Michigan, in a nutshell here’s what it states. Life in prison for any schedule 1 narcotic mixed in any form over 1000 grams. This would qualify a batch of brownies that a cancer patient we know well makes weekly. Could you imagine what those brownies weigh? Even if they don’t quite weigh 1000 grams from the 7 grams of actual marijuana the recipe calls and weigh 450 grams (1 pound), our friend would be faced with 30 years prison and a $500,000 fine.
When will this end? This is the most inartfully drafted proposed legislation since 1950’s Alabama.

Rick Jones Legislation
Anyone that has kept up on proposed medical marijuana legislation in Lansing knows that State Senator Rick Jones has taken the charge with drafting laws to protect the public. While I feel that our senator is very well intentioned and does care about patients he is starting in the wrong areas.

Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder runs in my family, those of us affected refer to it as “the gene of the damned”. My father is bipolar, my mother is not. I am bipolar, my brother is not. The same is true with extended family, some are affected, some are not.
Cannabis as a Substitute for Alcohol
Ninety-two Northern Californians using cannabis as an alternative to alcohol obtained letters of approval from the author. Their records were reviewed to determine characteristics of the cohort and efficacy of the treatment —defined as reduced harm to the patient. All patients reported benefit, indicating that for at least a subset of alcoholics, cannabis use is associated with reduced drinking. The cost of alcoholism to individual patients and society- at-large warrants testing of the cannabis-substitution approach and study of the drug-of-choice phenomenon.
